Of the 27 nakshatras, six — Ashwini, Ashlesha, Magha, Jyeshtha, Mool and Revati — sit at the junctions of Ketu's and Mercury's stars and are called Gandmool. A Moon born in these gives Gandmool Dosh: struggle for the native, and strain for the parents, often felt up to about the 28th year.
Its shanti is done by chanting the mantra of the birth nakshatra along with the Laghu Mrityunjaya mantra; nine Brahmins perform the ritual.
The ritual is performed by learned Vedic scholars of our Pujan Mart. The havan follows the japa (about 6 hours of chanting each day).
