What is Abhijit Muhurat?

Daytime is divided into 15 muhurtas; the eighth — the one around local noon — is called Abhijit. It lasts one-fifteenth of the day, roughly 45–50 minutes. Classical tradition calls it the destroyer of all doshas: when no other auspicious muhurat is available, necessary auspicious work can be done in Abhijit.

Abhijit on Wednesday

Tradition does not accept Abhijit Muhurat on Wednesdays — so on Wednesday our table marks it as not to be used. Many panchangs also consider Abhijit unsuitable for travel towards the south.

What it is useful for

Starting new work, signing an agreement, shopping, submitting an application, taking a puja vow — for such everyday auspicious tasks Abhijit is the most accessible good time. For major samskaras like marriage or a house-warming the full muhurat (nakshatra, tithi, lagna) must be checked.
