What is a Janma Kundali and what does it include

Your birth chart (janma kundali) is a snapshot of the sky at the moment you were born — the sign rising on the eastern horizon becomes the Lagna (ascendant), and the nine grahas settle into the twelve houses according to the signs and nakshatras they occupied. Every question of prediction starts from this map: which planet aspects which area of life (wealth, marriage, career, children, health), which is strong, which is afflicted.

How our calculation differs from other calculators

Most free calculators either use coarse table-based methods or never disclose their method at all. We compute sidereal positions with the Swiss Ephemeris — the same astronomical engine observatories rely on — using the Lahiri (Chitra-paksha) ayanamsa, a sunrise-based Vedic day, and the true ascendant from your birthplace's coordinates. The dasha balance comes from the exact elapsed fraction of your birth nakshatra. The entire method is published openly on our calculation methodology page so you can verify every number yourself. That transparency is our real difference.

Shodashvarga — the 16 divisional charts

Maharshi Parashara taught that the birth chart (D1) should be examined through sixteen finer charts, each a microscope on one area of life: Hora (D2) wealth, Drekkana (D3) siblings and courage, Chaturthamsha (D4) property, Saptamsha (D7) children, Navamsa (D9) marriage and a planet's real strength, Dashamsha (D10) career and status, Dwadashamsha (D12) parents, Shodashamsha (D16) vehicles and comforts, Vimshamsha (D20) spiritual practice, Chaturvimshamsha (D24) education, Trimshamsha (D30) illness and misfortune, and Shashtiamsha (D60) — the subtlest map of past karma, which Parashara weighted highest. The working rule is simple: whatever D1 promises, confirm it in the relevant varga — a career yoga in D1 with a weak D10 delivers late or diminished.

Lagna chart, Moon chart and Navamsa — why we read all three

The Lagna chart shows the body and the main direction of life; the Moon chart (counting houses from the Moon) shows the mind and emotional results — daily and monthly horoscopes are built on this Moon sign; and the Navamsa reveals a planet's inner strength — a planet exalted in D1 but debilitated in D9 delivers less than it appears to promise (hence the classical dictum: never predict without the Navamsa). Mature analysis combines all three — our prediction engine follows the same order.

Bhava-chalit vs the sign chart — why a planet "changes houses"

The sign chart treats each house as one whole sign, but houses are actually measured from the ascendant degree — with a house cusp and boundaries between houses. In the chalit chart a planet that sits in the 7th by sign may shift to the 6th or 8th by degree — and then it gives the results of that house. For sensitive questions like marriage this difference can be decisive, so our kundali includes the chalit chart as well.

How the Vimshottari dasha is derived

Vimshottari is a 120-year cycle divided among the nine grahas (Sun 6, Moon 10, Mars 7, Rahu 18, Jupiter 16, Saturn 19, Mercury 17, Ketu 7, Venus 20 years). It begins from the lord of your birth nakshatra, minus the portion of that nakshatra the Moon had already traversed at birth — which is why even a small birth-time error shifts every dasha date. Within each mahadasha the antardashas run in the same sequence. How accurate does the birth time need to be

The ascendant changes sign roughly every 2 hours, but the Navamsa ascendant changes every 13-14 minutes and the D60 every 2 minutes. Broad results survive a 15-20 minute error; divisional charts and dasha dates shift with it. A hospital record is the most reliable source; if all you have is "early morning", first tighten the time with our birth-details assistant, or have an astrologer perform birth-time rectification against major life events (marriage, childbirth, job changes) — the most frequently requested task in consultations.
