The Bajrang Baan is a prayer that calls on Hanuman ji for immediate help in trouble тАФ in it the devotee asks Hanuman, by the oath of Ram and Sita, ┬лdo not delay┬╗, and seed sounds like ┬лOm Hanu Hanu┬╗, ┬лOm Hreem┬╗ and ┬лOm Cham Cham┬╗ appear throughout. Tradition treats it as an ┬лinvocation┬╗ more than an ordinary hymn, so it is advised to recite it with purity and complete faith, in times of need.

ЁЯкФ How to chant / recite

  1. Time: Tuesday/Saturday; in trouble, any time.
  2. Method: After bath, light incense and a lamp before Hanuman ji тАФ the phalashruti says ┬лoffer incense and chant┬╗; first the Hanuman Chalisa, then the Bajrang Baan.
  3. Rules (tradition): On the day of recitation, sattvic food, celibacy and keeping away from anger; never recite it wishing harm to anyone.
  4. Count: Once; 41 days for a special sankalpa.

ЁЯЫХ Puja vidhi (step by step)

ЁЯз║ Items needed

  • Picture/idol of Hanuman ji
  • Sindoor and jasmine oil (for chola)
  • Red flowers (hibiscus/rose)
  • Red cloth or red asana
  • Ghee/sesame-oil lamp, incense
  • Bhog of jaggery-gram, boondi or besan laddoo
  • Tulsi leaves (on the bhog)
  • Water vessel, akshata

ЁЯк╖ Procedure

  1. Bathe and wear clean clothes; clean the puja place and spread a fresh cloth on the altar (chowki).
  2. Do achamana (sip water three times) and purify hands and mouth; sit on an asana and calm the mind.
  3. Light a lamp of ghee or sesame oil тАФ by tradition the lamp is kept to the deity's right.
  4. Take water, akshata (unbroken rice) and a flower in the right hand and make the sankalpa тАФ your name, gotra, place, date and the purpose of the puja, spoken or in the mind; then let the water fall to the ground.
  5. First remember Shri Ganesha (Om Gam Ganapataye Namah).
  6. Remember Shri Ram and Sita along with Hanuman тАФ Hanuman puja is considered complete only with Ram-bhakti.
  7. Bathe the idol with water (sprinkle water on a picture), then offer sindoor with jasmine oil (the custom of 'chola' on Tuesday/Saturday).
  8. Offer red flowers, akshata, incense and lamp; offer jaggery-gram or laddoo with a tulsi leaf.
  9. Recite Hanuman Chalisa / Bajrang Baan / Sundarkand, then sing ┬лAarti Kijai Hanuman Lala Ki┬╗.
  10. Finally perform aarti, offer pushpanjali (flowers) and do parikrama (or turn around in your place).
  11. Ask forgiveness for any mistakes in the puja, distribute the prasad and take it yourself.

тЪая╕П Rules & precautions

  • On recitation days keep celibacy, sattvic food and avoid anger.
  • Avoid meat and alcohol тАФ purity is valued highest in Hanuman worship.
  • By tradition women do not touch the idol or offer the chola, but everyone can recite, sing bhajans and do aarti.
  • During sutak/ashaucha, remember mentally instead of a formal puja.

ЁЯМЯ Benefits (as per tradition)

  • A prayer for protection from trouble, fear and obstacles (chaupais 23тАУ24, 33).
  • Confidence тАФ ┬лby your strength we are not afraid┬╗ (chaupai 19).

These are traditional beliefs described in scriptures; results are understood to depend on faith, discipline and one's own actions.
